In a shocking turn of events, a Brownsville man has pleaded guilty to a charge of violating federal narcotics laws, leaving him facing a life sentence in prison.
Shawn Workman, 45, of Brownsville, pleaded guilty to Count Two of the Superseding Indictment before Senior United States District Judge Kim R. Gibson in the Western District of Pennsylvania.
According to the investigation, Workman conspired with others to distribute 500 grams or more of a mixture and substance containing methamphetamine from March 2020 to June 2020. He was intercepted on a federal wiretap obtaining quantities of methamphetamine that he distributed to others.
The prosecution, led by Assistant United States Attorney Maureen Sheehan-Balchon, has cited the federal Sentencing Guidelines as a basis for determining the actual sentence, which would be based on the seriousness of the offense and Workman’s prior criminal history.
The investigation was a collaborative effort between multiple agencies, including the Drug Enforcement Administration, Pennsylvania State Police, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Internal Revenue Service – Criminal Investigation.
The case is part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) investigation, which aims to identify, disrupt, and dismantle high-level drug traffickers and money launderers by leveraging the strengths of federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies against criminal networks.
The sentencing for Workman has been scheduled for October 10, 2024, with possible penalties including up to life in prison, a fine of up to $10 million, or both.
