Fentanyl trafficking suspect Javonte Dejuan Perry, also known as ‘Dre’, 33, of Huntington, has pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute fentanyl.
Perry, a convicted fentanyl dealer, sold a quantity of fentanyl to a confidential informant in Huntington on March 30, 2023.
The deal went down just months after the city of Huntington was ravaged by a wave of fentanyl overdoses, leaving many dead and others fighting for their lives.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Perry is scheduled to be sentenced on September 16, 2024, and faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison, at least three years of supervised release, and a $250,000 fine.
United States Attorney Will Thompson praised the investigative work of the Huntington Police Department, saying their efforts led to the successful prosecution of Perry.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Stephanie Taylor, who will be seeking the maximum penalty for Perry’s crimes.
United States District Judge Robert C. Chambers presided over the hearing, where Perry’s fate was sealed.
The guilty plea is a significant blow to the fentanyl trade in the Huntington area, where the deadly opioid has claimed countless lives.
With Perry’s guilty plea, the community can rest a little easier knowing that one less fentanyl dealer is on the streets, but the fight against fentanyl trafficking is far from over.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of West Virginia will continue to work tirelessly to bring fentanyl dealers to justice and keep the community safe.
