Brownsville Trafficker Sentenced 57 Months for 24Kg Meth Smuggling

A 27-year-old Brownsville man has been sentenced to prison for his role in importing 25 bricks of methamphetamine, weighing approximately 24 kilograms, into the United States.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Texas, Juan Adame II, 27, pleaded guilty to the charges on March 11, 2022. Chief U.S. District Judge Randy Crane handed down the sentence, ordering Adame to serve 57 months in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release.

Adame was arrested on April 8, 2021, after arriving at the Progresso Port of Entry. During a secondary inspection, a K-9 unit alerted to the presence of narcotics, and a subsequent search revealed the large shipment of methamphetamine hidden in compartments within the vehicle’s wheel wells.

The estimated street value of the seized methamphetamine is approximately $60,000. In his plea, Adame admitted that he knew he was smuggling narcotics and had done so on multiple occasions.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Theodore Parran III prosecuted the case, which was conducted by Customs and Border Protection and Homeland Security Investigations.

Adame will remain in custody pending transfer to a U.S. Bureau of Prisons facility to be determined in the near future. His lengthy prison sentence serves as a warning to those involved in the trafficking of illicit substances, that law enforcement will not tolerate such activity.

The investigation and subsequent prosecution of Adame demonstrate the commitment of the U.S. Attorney’s Office and law enforcement agencies to disrupting and dismantling the networks of those who seek to bring harm to our communities through the trafficking of narcotics.
