Florissant Man Convicted in Cocaine Conspiracy
A Florissant man has been convicted of federal drug conspiracy charges after a four-day trial in the Eastern District of Missouri. Torrance L. Cotton, 35, was found guilty of participating in a conspiracy to distribute large amounts of cocaine in the St. Louis area.
According to testimony presented during the trial, Cotton began supplying cocaine to co-defendant David Frazier in late summer 2012. Frazier, in turn, supplied the drug to co-defendant Jeremy Poe. The exchanges of drugs and money took place at a business located on South Broadway in St. Louis, where both Cotton and Frazier were employees.
On January 11, 2013, Poe was arrested after agreeing to sell a kilogram of cocaine to a government informant. A subsequent search of his residence yielded an additional 1.5 kilograms of cocaine, along with a blender, scale, cutting agent, and a press. One week later, agents seized a kilogram of cocaine from Frazier’s kitchen, and Cotton’s fingerprints were later found on the packaging of that kilogram of cocaine.
Cotton was convicted Thursday after a four-day trial before United States District Judge John A. Ross. Sentencing has been set for June 2014. Ten co-defendants have entered guilty pleas to related charges, have been sentenced, or are awaiting sentencing.
Cotton now faces a penalty range of ten years to life in prison. In determining the actual sentences, a Judge is required to consider the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines, which provide recommended sentencing ranges.
The case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). The DEA worked tirelessly to dismantle the cocaine conspiracy and bring those responsible to justice.
Torrance Cotton, 35, is scheduled to be sentenced in June 2014. He faces a penalty range of 10 years to life in prison. His conviction is a significant blow to the cocaine trafficking ring and a testament to the hard work and dedication of law enforcement agencies.
