Daniel W. Dawe, Methamphetamine Possession, Illinois 2021

A Pekin man has been sentenced to 12 years and 7 months in prison for his role in a methamphetamine trafficking operation.

Daniel W. Dawe, 48, of the 1600 block of Crescent Drive in Pekin, was sentenced to 151 months in the Bureau of Prisons, followed by 8 years of supervised release for possession of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute.

The sentencing hearing revealed that Dawe was a passenger in a vehicle stopped for a traffic violation on November 5, 2019. Dawe, who was on mandatory supervised release for the State of Illinois at the time, was searched and found to be in possession of several individual baggies of suspected ice methamphetamine.

A lab report later confirmed the methamphetamine weighed 17.584 grams and was 100% pure. Dawe admitted to purchasing approximately eight ounces of ice methamphetamine since his release from prison in June 2019.

Dawe pleaded guilty to the sole count of the indictment on June 25, 2021, pursuant to a written plea agreement. He faced enhanced statutory penalties due to his prior 2012 conviction for robbery, a serious violent felony offense.

The Drug Enforcement Administration and Pekin Police Department investigated the case, which is part of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) National Methamphetamine Strategic Initiative.

The primary goal of this initiative is to address methamphetamine trafficking and its attendant consequences by using a coordinated, multi-agency approach targeting the highest levels of drug trafficking leadership.
