Fentanyl Distribution Lands Man 7 Years in Prison
A Kanawha County man has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term for his role in distributing fentanyl, a deadly opioid that has ravaged communities across the country.
Danise Maurice Fortune, 41, of St. Albans, was sentenced to 7 years and 3 months in prison, followed by 3 years of supervised release, for his involvement in distributing the illicit substance.
According to court documents and statements made in court, on January 25, 2022, Fortune sold approximately 11 grams of suspected heroin for $1,300 to a confidential informant in St. Albans.
The West Virginia State Police Forensic Laboratory confirmed the controlled substance was approximately 9.2 grams of fentanyl and also contained phencyclidine, also known as PCP.
United States Attorney Will Thompson commended the investigative work of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), the Charleston Police Department, and the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office for their tireless efforts in bringing Fortune to justice.
Chief United States District Judge Thomas E. Johnston imposed the sentence, bringing an end to Fortune’s involvement in the deadly fentanyl trade.
Assistant United States Attorney Ryan A. Keefe prosecuted the case, ensuring that Fortune faced the full weight of the law for his crimes.
