A former postal services employee was brought to justice for stealing mail from a military veteran in Forest City, Iowa.

Danny D. Miller, 55, was convicted of theft of mail by a postal services employee on January 23, 2015 in federal court in Sioux City.

Miller, from Ventura, Iowa, admitted to opening mail and stealing pain medication parcels addressed to a Forest City military veteran between May 2013 and July 2014.

The stolen parcels contained Oxycodone and were sent by the Department of Veteran’s Affairs.

Miller faces a possible maximum sentence of 5 years’ imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, and up to 1 year of supervised release following any imprisonment.

Miller remains free on bond pending sentencing.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Jamie Bowers and was investigated by the U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector General.
