Boston was the scene of a brazen armed robbery on May 30, 2019, when Dante Mirabella, 56, stormed Bob’s Grocery Store, brandishing a Hi-Point .380 caliber semi-automatic pistol, and made off with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Mirabella’s crime spree didn’t end there. Prior to the grocery store robbery, he had committed two armed robberies of a parking lot attendant and a restaurant employee, demonstrating a pattern of violent behavior.
On Nov. 2, 2021, Mirabella pleaded guilty to one count of interfering with commerce by robbery, one count of brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence and one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition.
Mirabella’s prior felony convictions render him prohibited from possessing any firearm or ammunition, making his actions all the more egregious.
On Feb. 22, 2022, Judge Allison D. Burroughs sentenced Mirabella to 92 months in prison and four years of supervised release. This sentence serves as a reminder that those who engage in violent crime will be held accountable.
The investigation and prosecution of Mirabella’s case were a collaborative effort between the United States Attorney’s Office, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Boston Police Department.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Benjamin A. Saltzman prosecuted the case, bringing Mirabella to justice for his crimes.
