Dario Olivas, a 24-year-old man from Veguita, N.M., has been sentenced to 60 months in prison for his role in a methamphetamine trafficking operation. Olivas pleaded guilty to one count of methamphetamine distribution and was sentenced in federal court in Santa Fe, N.M.
The charges against Olivas stemmed from two incidents in 2013, in which he sold methamphetamine to an undercover DEA task force officer. On May 14, 2013, Olivas sold approximately 30.5 gross grams of methamphetamine for $1,100.00 at a restaurant in Belen, N.M. On July 8, 2013, he sold approximately 88.8 gross grams of methamphetamine for $3,300.00 at a restaurant in Belen.
Olivas was arrested on August 9, 2013, on an indictment charging him with two counts of distributing methamphetamine in Valencia County, N.M. He pleaded guilty to one count of methamphetamine distribution on March 11, 2014, and admitted to the two sales mentioned above.
In addition to his 60-month prison sentence, Olivas will also serve four years of supervised release. The case was investigated by the Albuquerque office of the DEA and was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Samuel A. Hurtado and Stephen R. Kotz.
