Fentanyl Trafficking Hits Manchester, New Hampshire
A 29-year-old Manchester man has been accused of selling large quantities of fentanyl to other distributors in the city. Darius Augusto Guzman Ruiz pleaded guilty in federal court to possession of fentanyl with intent to distribute.
According to court documents, Guzman Ruiz was selling between 100 and 300 grams of fentanyl at a time to other distributors in Manchester. Between October 10, 2019, and November 1, 2019, a cooperating individual conducted four controlled purchases of fentanyl from Guzman Ruiz, each involving approximately 180 grams of the deadly substance.
On November 25, 2019, the Manchester Police Department executed search warrants at various residences used by Guzman Ruiz, recovering over $100,000 in cash, over 400 grams of fentanyl, and drug packaging and pressing equipment.
Guzman Ruiz is scheduled to be sentenced on June 4, 2021. The case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Manchester Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Georgiana MacDonald is prosecuting the case.
The investigation is part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) investigation, which targets high-level drug traffickers, money launderers, gangs, and transnational criminal organizations threatening the United States.
Fentanyl is a lethal drug that endangers the well-being of everyone who abuses it, said U.S. Attorney Scott W. Murray. It is essential that we stop its distribution by bringing dealers to justice.
Guzman Ruiz’s charges include possession of fentanyl with intent to distribute. The incident occurred in Manchester, New Hampshire, on October 10, 2019. Guzman Ruiz is currently scheduled to be sentenced on June 4, 2021.
The maximum sentence for this crime is up to 20 years in prison, but the actual sentence will be determined by the court. Guzman Ruiz’s current status is that he has pleaded guilty and is awaiting sentencing.
