A sophisticated dark web drug trafficking organization that operated from Medellin, Colombia, and had cells in Miami, Florida, and Charlotte, North Carolina, was dismantled by federal authorities after a multinational operation. The group, known as Undertaker45, used encrypted messaging platforms and dark web marketplaces to distribute counterfeit OxyContin pills laced with fentanyl and counterfeit Adderall pills containing methamphetamine across the US between July 2017 and May 2023.
The organization’s leaders, including Cesar Augusto Olmos Usaquen, Juan Carlos Carroll Borrero, and Eduardo Villarroel Bellorin, were prosecuted in Cincinnati for their roles in the conspiracy. Olmos Usaquen, 51, led the organization from Medellin, where he managed the group’s dark web presence and coordinated shipments of counterfeit pills to the US.
Carroll Borrero, 43, received bulk shipments of pills in Miami and distributed them throughout the US, often shipping them in old DVD cases to avoid detection. Villarroel Bellorin, 37, worked in North Carolina, receiving shipments and providing them to Carroll Borrero for further distribution, while also coordinating the group’s money laundering efforts using cryptocurrency.
The convictions and sentencing of the three defendants mark a significant blow to the dark web drug trafficking organization, which used advanced technology to evade law enforcement and distribute deadly drugs across the US.
