Felony Firearm Charge Lands McKees Rocks Resident 51 Months Behind Bars

PITTSBURGH – For possessing a firearm after being convicted of multiple felonies, Darnell Maurice Manson, 23, of McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania, is headed to federal prison for 51 months. This decision was made in United States District Court on July 23, 2024, announced United States Attorney Eric G. Olshan today.

Manson’s lengthy sentence was handed down by United States District Judge Christy Criswell Wiegand. His conviction stems from a series of events that began when he was convicted of multiple felonies in October 2018 in the Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas. Federal law prohibits convicted felons from possessing firearms or ammunition.

On August 8, 2021, during a traffic stop, the Brentwood Borough Police Department discovered a Smith & Wesson Model 9 M&P Shield, 9mm caliber pistol, and 9mm ammunition, as well as stamp gangs of heroin in the vehicle Manson was driving. His subsequent arrest and guilty plea would prove a crucial turning point in this case.

After being indicted by a federal grand jury in Pittsburgh on February 2, 2023, Manson pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm, a violation of federal firearms law, on October 4, 2023.

Manson’s federal sentence will be served consecutively to his state sentence of 24 months for violating his conditions of state parole. Assistant United States Attorney Nicole A. Stockey successfully prosecuted this case on behalf of the government.

United States Attorney Olshan commended the Brentwood Borough Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives for their investigative efforts leading to the successful prosecution of Manson.
