Cedar Rapids Man Pleads Guilty to Ammunition Charge
A man who defied a no contact order and possessed ammunition after having prior convictions for felonies and domestic abuse assaults has pleaded guilty in federal court in Cedar Rapids.
Daryl Harden, a 41-year-old man from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, pleaded guilty to one count of being a prohibited person in possession of ammunition.
At the plea hearing, Harden admitted that, on January 11, 2020, he knowingly possessed five rounds of ammunition after having been convicted of six crimes punishable by more than one year of imprisonment, after having been convicted of nine misdemeanor crimes of domestic violence, and while he was subject to two no contact orders.
Harden faces a possible maximum sentence of ten years’ imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, and three years of supervised release following any imprisonment.
The case against Harden was brought as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime in communities.
Assistant United States Attorney Mark Tremmel is prosecuting the case, which was investigated by the Cedar Rapids Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
Harden remains in the custody of the United States Marshal pending sentencing.
