TAMPA, FL – Mauricio Flores, a 36-year-old resident of Davenport, FL, is facing up to 20 years in federal prison after being indicted for possession of child sexual abuse material (CSAM). United States Attorney Gregory W. Kehoe announced the charges against Flores, who if convicted will be stripped of his cellphone as part of the federal forfeiture process.
According to court documents, law enforcement officials targeted Flores’s residence following activity on a dark web site specializing in CSAM. A search warrant was executed, resulting in the seizure of electronic devices that contained files of child sexual abuse material. The investigation was led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and will be prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Muriel Moore.
Project Safe Childhood, a national initiative launched by the Department of Justice to combat child sexual exploitation, is responsible for bringing this case to light. The program’s aim is to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children and identify and rescue victims.
