A 52-year-old Davenport man has been sentenced to prison for his role in a major cocaine and methamphetamine distribution operation in the Quad Cities area. Shelby Lamonte Miller was found guilty of Conspiracy to Distribute Cocaine Base, Possession with Intent to Distribute Methamphetamine, and Possession with Intent to Distribute Cocaine Base following a jury trial on August 20, 2020.
The investigation into Miller’s activities began in April 2019, when law enforcement learned that he was distributing crack cocaine in the Davenport area. On August 20, 2020, a search warrant was executed at Miller’s residence at the Quad City Inn in Davenport, where officers located both crack cocaine and methamphetamine, as well as other items consistent with drug trafficking.
Miller was on federal supervised release for a prior drug conviction at the time of this offense. Chief Judge John A. Jarvey revoked Miller’s supervised release and sentenced him to 36 months in prison, to be served consecutively to the 121-month sentence.
According to Acting United States Attorney Richard D. Westphal, Miller will serve a total of 157 months in prison, followed by eight years of supervised release. Miller was also ordered to pay $300 to the Crime Victims’ Fund.
The investigation into Miller’s activities was led by the Davenport Police Department, with assistance from other law enforcement agencies. The case was prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa.
Miller’s sentencing is a significant blow to the cocaine and methamphetamine trade in the Quad Cities area. The Davenport Police Department and the United States Attorney’s Office have worked tirelessly to disrupt and dismantle major drug trafficking organizations in the region.
The case is a reminder that law enforcement will continue to pursue and prosecute those who engage in drug trafficking and other serious crimes in the Quad Cities area.
