Choctaw, MS – A gruesome crime has shaken the small town of Choctaw, Mississippi. Davian Wilson, 22, a/k/a ‘Chaba’, and James Bell, Jr., 21, were recently sentenced for their roles in a 2014 murder.
According to court records, Wilson was found guilty of second degree murder following a four-day trial in December 2016. He was sentenced to 400 months in federal prison followed by five years of supervised release. Wilson was also ordered to pay a $50,000 fine.
Bell, who entered a guilty plea to second degree murder in July 2016, received a significantly lighter sentence. He was sentenced to 180 months in prison followed by five years of supervised release. Bell was also ordered to pay a $1,500 fine.
The disturbing details of the crime emerged during Wilson’s trial. The testimony showed that, following an earlier altercation with the victim, Wilson asked several individuals to assist him in locating and assaulting the victim. Upon locating the victim, Wilson and his co-defendant, James Bell, Jr., stabbed the victim over fifty times, causing his death.
The case was a joint effort between the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Choctaw Police Department. Assistant United States Attorneys Patrick Lemon and Jennifer Case prosecuted the case.
Residents of Choctaw are still reeling from the news of the sentencing. The community is left to wonder how two young men could commit such a heinous crime.
As the dust settles on this tragic case, one thing is clear: justice has been served. But for the victim’s loved ones, nothing can bring back the loss they’ve suffered.
