Illegal Reentry Lands 22-Year-Old in Hot Water
David Aguilar-Araiza, a 22-year-old native and citizen of Mexico, has been charged with illegal reentry into the United States. According to US Attorney Peter Smith, Aguilar-Araiza was previously arrested and deported in April 2012, but reentered the country and was apprehended in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania.
Aguilar-Araiza was charged in a one-count indictment by a federal grand jury in Harrisburg today. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of up to two years’ imprisonment and a $250,000 fine.
Authorities say that the investigation was conducted by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO). The case is being prosecuted by Special Assistant United States Attorney Brian G. McDonnell.
Aguilar-Araiza remains innocent until proven guilty in court. A sentence following a finding of guilty is imposed by the Judge after consideration of the applicable federal sentencing statutes and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines.
The indictment alleges that Aguilar-Araiza reentered the United States, violating federal law. This is a serious offense, and the consequences can be severe. If convicted, Aguilar-Araiza will face a maximum sentence of two years in prison and a fine of $250,000.
The investigation into Aguilar-Araiza’s activities is ongoing, and authorities are working to ensure that justice is served. The public is advised to report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
The case is a reminder that the US government takes immigration offenses seriously. Those who violate federal law will be held accountable for their actions.
