Tennessee Man Sentenced to Nearly 20 Years in Prison for Child Exploitation
A disturbing case of child exploitation has come to an end, with a Tennessee man being sentenced to nearly 20 years in prison for preying on a 14-year-old girl in Ohio.
David K. Turner, 24, of Knoxville, Tennessee, was handed down a 238-month prison sentence after pleading guilty to a four-count indictment that charged him with sexually exploiting a minor, distributing a visual depiction of a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct, coercing and enticing a minor, and traveling with the intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct.
According to Acting United States Attorney Carole S. Rendon, Turner’s actions were deeply troubling and a stark reminder of the dangers of online child exploitation. ‘All forms of child exploitation are deeply troubling, and this case illustrated how quickly online child exploitation can lead to sexual exploitation,’ she said.
Turner’s crimes were committed in Ohio, where he traveled to exploit the 14-year-old girl. He coerced her into performing sex acts on camera and planned to take her across the country in an attempt to further exploit her.
The Canton and Massillon Police Departments, along with the FBI Canton Resident Agency, worked tirelessly to bring Turner to justice, and their efforts have been commendable.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Brian M. McDonough, who ensured that Turner was held accountable for his heinous crimes.
As we continue to combat the scourge of child exploitation, it is essential that we remain vigilant and work together to protect our children from predators like Turner.
