Benny T. Hunt, Sexual Exploitation of a Child, Ohio 2024

Benny T. Hunt, a 40-year-old man from Akron, Ohio, has been indicted on multiple federal charges for the sexual exploitation of a 14-year-old girl, marking another grim entry in the growing list of online predators targeting minors. The indictment, unsealed in federal court, details a calculated campaign of coercion and abuse carried out over several months.

Hunt is charged with enticement, sexual exploitation of a child, and distribution of visual depictions of a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct. According to the indictment, between June and August, Hunt used a cellular phone with internet access to systematically persuade, induce, entice, and coerce the underage girl into engaging in sexual activity—acts for which he could be criminally prosecuted under federal law.

The charges allege that Hunt not only exploited the child but also produced visual depictions of the abuse. He used, persuaded, and coerced the minor to engage in sexually explicit conduct for the purpose of creating these images. The materials used in the production were transported in and affecting interstate and foreign commerce, and the images were subsequently transmitted using facilities of interstate commerce, authorities say.

Further, Hunt knowingly distributed visual depictions of the 14-year-old girl engaged in sexually explicit conduct via digital means, amplifying the reach and permanence of the child’s victimization. Each distribution multiplies the harm, embedding the trauma in networks beyond the predator’s immediate control.

If convicted, Hunt’s sentence will be determined by the court after consideration of factors including his prior criminal record, if any, his role in the offense, and the nature of the violations. While the sentence cannot exceed the statutory maximum, federal guidelines ensure severe penalties for crimes of this nature. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Michael A. Sullivan.

The investigation was conducted by the FBI’s Youngstown office, the Ohio Attorney General’s Office Bureau of Criminal Investigation, and the Girard Police Department. An indictment is not evidence of guilt. Benny T. Hunt is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
