A Rapid City man has been sentenced for failing to register as a sex offender. David Marrowbone, 58, was convicted of the crime after he failed to update his sex offender registration between December 25, 2020, and April 21, 2021.
Marrowbone was convicted of Assault with the Intent to Commit Rape in March 1982. As a result of this conviction, he is required to register as a sex offender. Marrowbone was previously convicted of Failure to Register as a Sex Offender in 1998, 2015, and 2018.
On March 9, 2020, a federal grand jury indicted Marrowbone for Failure to Register as a Sex Offender. He plead guilty to the charge on May 21, 2021. Chief Judge Roberto A. Lange, U.S. District Court, sentenced Marrowbone to 24 months in federal prison, followed by five years of supervised release, and a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
The case was investigated by the U.S. Marshals Service. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jay Miller prosecuted the case. Marrowbone was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
The requirements for sex offender registration are in place to protect the public from individuals who have committed serious crimes. Marrowbone’s failure to update his registration puts him at risk of further punishment.
The U.S. Marshals Service will be responsible for ensuring that Marrowbone complies with the terms of his sentence.
