Buffalo Man Sentenced On Drug Charge

A Buffalo man has been sentenced to time served and three years of supervised release for his role in a massive drug trafficking operation in the city’s Perry Housing Projects.

David Varner, 57, was found guilty of maintaining a drug involved premises and was sentenced by Senior U.S. District Judge William M. Skretny.

According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Timothy C. Lynch, Varner allowed his co-defendants to use his apartment to manufacture, possess, and distribute crack cocaine between April 2011 and April 3, 2013.

The investigation, which was led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation Safe Streets Task Force, also recovered over 300 grams of cocaine base and 700 grams of powdered cocaine, as well as a firearm, during a search of Varner’s apartment and another location in the projects.

Varner was one of 11 defendants arrested in April 2013, and all have been convicted in connection with the case.

The sentencing is a major milestone in the investigation, which was conducted by the FBI Safe Streets Task Force, the New York State Police, and the Buffalo Police Department.

Varner’s sentencing is the culmination of a lengthy investigation into the drug trafficking operation, which was led by the FBI Safe Streets Task Force, under the direction of Adam S. Cohen, Special Agent-in-Charge, the New York State Police, under the direction of Major Steven Nigrelli, and the Buffalo Police Department, under the direction of Commissioner Daniel Derenda.
