The streets of Maine just got a little safer thanks to a guilty plea from a Caribou man who was involved in a massive methamphetamine conspiracy. 43-year-old Greg Libby, pleaded guilty to conspiring to distribute and possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine.

According to court records, Libby and his co-conspirators obtained methamphetamine in western and southern states from sources in Mexico between July 2018 and May 2019. They then distributed the drugs in Aroostook County and other parts of central and northern Maine.

The investigation into Libby’s activities was a joint effort between the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, Homeland Security Investigations and the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency, with the assistance of multiple state and local law enforcement agencies.

Libby’s guilty plea is a significant blow to the organized crime syndicates that have been terrorizing our communities. His cooperation with authorities could also lead to the prosecution of his co-conspirators.

Under the terms of his plea agreement, Libby faces between 10 years and life in prison and a fine of up to $10 million. He also faces between five years and a lifetime of supervised release.

The U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors will be considered by a federal district court judge when determining Libby’s sentence. A presentence investigation report by the U.S. Probation Office will also be completed before Libby is sentenced.

This case is part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) investigation, aimed at disrupting and dismantling the highest-level drug traffickers and transnational criminal organizations that threaten the United States.
