Michigan Man Pleads Guilty to Aiding and Abetting Heroin Distribution
Huntington, W.Va. – In a significant blow to the state’s ongoing struggle against the opioid epidemic, 51-year-old Steven McGee of Michigan has pleaded guilty to aiding and abetting the distribution of heroin. The guilty plea is a major victory for law enforcement officials and a testament to the tireless efforts of the Huntington Police Department.
As per the charges filed against him, McGee admitted to directing the distribution of heroin to a confidential informant in the area of 24th Street and 10th Avenue in Huntington on February 24, 2020. This brazen act of heroin trafficking has left a lasting impact on the community and has led to a significant increase in heroin-related arrests.
Speaking on the matter, Acting United States Attorney Lisa G. Johnston commended the Huntington Police Department for their dedication to stemming the tide of the opioid epidemic. ‘Their work continues to make Huntington a safer place to live,’ she said.
McGee’s guilty plea comes as a major setback for those involved in the heroin trade. He faces up to 20 years in prison when he is sentenced on June 7, 2021. The United States District Judge Robert C. Chambers will preside over the sentencing hearing, with Assistant United States Attorney Joe Adams handling the prosecution.
The investigation into McGee’s activities was conducted by the Huntington Police Department. As a result of their tireless efforts, McGee’s heroin trafficking operation has been brought to a grinding halt, and the community can breathe a sigh of relief.
