Martinsburg Woman Admits to Cocaine Charge
A local woman is facing up to 20 years in prison after admitting to her role in the distribution of cocaine base. Jennifer Hardy, 32, of Martinsburg, West Virginia, pleaded guilty to one count of ‘Aiding and Abetting Distribution of Cocaine Base’ in a federal court.
According to court documents, Hardy worked with another individual to sell cocaine base, also known as ‘crack,’ in Berkeley County in February 2021. The crime carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $1 million.
Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed will be based on the seriousness of the offense and any prior criminal history Hardy may have. Assistant U.S. Attorney Lara Omps-Botteicher is prosecuting the case on behalf of the government.
The Eastern Panhandle Drug Task Force, a HIDTA-funded initiative, investigated the case. U.S. Magistrate Judge Robert W. Trumble presided over the hearing.
Hardy’s guilty plea marks a significant development in the case, which began with an investigation by the Eastern Panhandle Drug Task Force. The task force worked tirelessly to bring the perpetrators to justice, and their efforts have paid off.
