WHEELING, WEST VIRGINIA – In a shocking turn of events, Samuel Anthony Spilios, a 39-year-old resident of Newell, West Virginia, has been sentenced to 120 months of incarceration for a drug charge, announced United States Attorney William Ihlenfeld today.
According to court documents, Spilios pleaded guilty in February 2022 to one count of “Distribution of 50 Grams or More of Methamphetamine.” Spilios admitted to selling more than 50 grams of methamphetamine, also known as “ice,” in December 2020 in Hancock County.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Shawn M. Adkins on behalf of the government. The Hancock-Brooke-Weirton Drug Task Force, a HIDTA-funded initiative, played a crucial role in the investigation, along with the Drug Enforcement Administration in Youngtown, Ohio, the Liverpool Township Police Department-Ohio, and the East Liverpool Police Department -Ohio. The U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Northern District of Ohio also assisted.
U.S. District Judge John Preston Bailey presided over the case. The investigation and subsequent prosecution highlight the growing concern of methamphetamine trafficking in the region.
