Michael Pittman, Conspiracy to Commit Firearms Trafficking, District of Columbia 2025

WASHINGTON – Michael Pittman, 30, of the District of Columbia, faced a federal prison sentence of 84 months for his role in an illegal arms ring that funneled over 200 firearms into the D.C. area.

Pittman pleaded guilty on April 14, 2025, to conspiracy to commit firearms trafficking after a prolonged investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Virginia State Police.

“It’s bad enough we have a gun problem in D.C. but even worse when you traffic them in from other states,” said U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro. “Firearms traffickers present an immediate danger to the community.”

According to court documents, Pittman rented cars and traveled to Georgia and North Carolina between April 2023 and May 2024, where he purchased firearms from illegal suppliers. He then re-sold them in the D.C. area through various means, including online advertising featuring images of guns displayed on his bed with prices.

Pittman’s criminal spree came to an end on May 30, 2024, when he was arrested by Virginia State Police after fleeing a traffic stop and crashing into the woods. Authorities recovered 16 firearms from Pittman’s backpack, two more he had dropped, and two left in his vehicle.

Following the arrest, law enforcement searched Pittman’s residence and uncovered hundreds of rounds of ammunition, firearm repair tools, magazines, and three additional firearms. The investigation revealed that Pittman has one prior felony conviction for second-degree assault in Prince George’s County, Maryland.
