Montgomery, Alabama – In a resounding victory against the drug trade, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) has honored Assistant U.S. Attorneys Verne Speirs and Gray Borden with the prestigious Spartan Award. This accolade, presented by United States Attorney George L. Beck, Jr., of the Middle District of Alabama, acknowledges their relentless pursuit of justice in the war on drugs.
The DEA selected Speirs and Borden for their extraordinary dedication and effort in investigating and prosecuting large-scale drug dealers and money launderers across the state. Their hard-fought achievements have significantly reduced the drug menace in the region.
‘The DEA is proud to present the 2013 Spartan Award for Excellence in Drug Investigations to AUSA’s Speirs and Borden,’ said Clay Morris, Assistant Special Agent in Charge of DEA in Alabama. ‘Their relentless pursuit of justice, tenacity, loyalty, and dedication embody the spirit of a Spartan Warrior.’
Speirs and Borden have been instrumental in dismantling numerous drug trafficking organizations and removing dangerous criminals from the streets, a testament to their commitment to community safety.
In response to the award, Speirs expressed his gratitude for the recognition, yet emphasized that ‘the real credit goes to the DEA Agents and Task Force Officers who risk everything to combat drug traffickers across this country.’ Borden echoed these sentiments, stating, ‘I am proud to be associated with a team of this caliber, whose dedication ensures our communities remain safe from the scourge of drugs.’
