A 35-year-old Washington D.C. man has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the brutal beating of a 55-year-old man in an alleyway off Southern Avenue SE on October 10, 2022.
Charles Lewis confronted Mark Carter in the alleyway, where Carter was parked in a car that belonged to Lewis’ family member. The dispute escalated into a deadly attack, with Lewis punching and kicking Carter in the head and body until the victim became unresponsive.
Lewis then dragged Carter out into the middle of Southern Avenue SE and fled the scene. The victim succumbed to his injuries five days later on October 15, 2022.
Lewis was arrested on December 7, 2022, and has been in custody ever since.
He faces 12-15 years in prison and is set to be sentenced on October 2, 2026.
