Deadly Fentanyl Mailed to Ex-Girlfriend Lands Man in Jail

A 35-year-old man has been arrested in Pennsylvania and charged with distributing fentanyl and acetyl fentanyl to the Western District of Washington, following the death of his ex-girlfriend who was found dead after consuming the deadly drugs sent to her in the mail.

According to the criminal complaint, Jesse S. Dittmar, 35, sent multiple envelopes containing the drugs to his former girlfriend who had moved to her brother’s home in Seattle after they broke up in the fall of 2018.

The victim, 32, had cut off contact with Dittmar until December 2018, but they began texting each other again and Dittmar allegedly sent her drugs enclosed in greeting cards. Following her death, multiple greeting cards and packaging materials for drugs were found in the victim’s bedroom.

The King County Medical Examiner determined the victim died from acute drug intoxication including fentanyl, and the charges against Dittmar carry a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison.

The case is being investigated by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service with assistance from the Seattle Police Department and Seattle Fire Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Lyndsie Schmalz is prosecuting the case.

Dittmar appeared in U.S. District Court in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania and will ultimately appear in the Western District of Washington. The case is a sobering reminder of the dangers of fentanyl and the devastating consequences of its distribution.

The charges against Dittmar are only allegations, and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
