Drug Dealer’s Downfall: 78 Months in Prison
Ramon Monroig, a 40-year-old man from Danbury, Connecticut, has been sentenced to 78 months in prison for his involvement in cocaine and gun crimes. Monroig, also known as ‘Ray Rock,’ was arrested in 2016 after a series of controlled purchases of cocaine and a search of his property.
According to court documents, investigators made multiple controlled purchases of cocaine from Monroig between January and May 2016. On July 19, 2016, investigators conducted a court-authorized search of a Danbury property used as a stash house and seized an AK-47 assault rifle, a 9mm handgun, numerous rounds of ammunition, and other items.
Monroig was stopped as he drove from the property, and a search of his vehicle revealed additional cocaine and marijuana. He was arrested on state charges and released on bond, but his freedom was short-lived.
On July 20, 2016, police were preparing to execute a search warrant at a Danbury storage unit where Monroig kept one of his cars when they noticed a vehicle surveilling the activity. The vehicle sped off, and police stopped it several blocks away, finding Monroig and his sister and her boyfriend inside. A search of the car revealed $8,400 in cash, including prerecorded bills used to make controlled purchases of narcotics from Monroig.
Monroig pleaded guilty to one count of possession of cocaine with intent to distribute and one count of possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime on November 15, 2016. As part of his sentence, Monroig forfeited two firearms, two iPhones, a 2010 Chevrolet Camaro, and $9,582 in cash.
The investigation was a collaborative effort between the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Danbury Police Department, and Brookfield Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Joseph Vizcarrondo prosecuted the case. Monroig will serve 78 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release. His sentence is a testament to the hard work of law enforcement in combating drug trafficking and gun crimes in Connecticut.
