New Orleans Man Pleads Guilty to Felony Murder in Connection with Loomis Armored Car Robbery
NEW ORLEANS – Deltoine Scott, age 25, of New Orleans, Louisiana, pleaded guilty to felony murder related to a 2017 Loomis Armored Car robbery and a 2015 Brinks Armored Car robbery in the city.
According to U.S. Attorney Peter G. Strasser, Scott admitted to conspiring with Jerome Kieffer and Armstead Kieffer, father and son, to commit the two armored car robberies. Scott and Jerome Kieffer spent several days planning the 2015 robbery, waiting behind a hole they cut in a wooden fence and jumping out with guns when they saw the guard move away from the armored car.
Scott admitted that he and Jerome Kieffer got the guns they used in the robbery from Armstead Kieffer and returned to his house immediately after the robbery to count the proceeds. In the 2017 attempted robbery, Scott acknowledged that Jerome Kieffer had rented an apartment that overlooked the scene of the attempted robbery and had approached him about committing another robbery.
Scott faces a penalty of any term of years up to life in prison for his role in the 2017 attempted robbery. On the charges related to the 2015 robbery, Scott faces up to 25 years in prison, plus a mandatory consecutive sentence of at least 7 years up to life. The conspiracy charge carries a maximum penalty of 5 years. Scott faces up to 5 years in prison on each of the false statement counts.
Sentencing is set before United States District Judge Ivan L.R. Lemelle on January 30, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. U.S. Attorney Strasser praised the work of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the New Orleans Police Department in investigating this matter. Assistant United States Attorneys David Haller and Michael McMahon are in charge of the prosecution.
As part of his plea agreement, Scott admitted to lying to federal agents about his whereabouts on the day of the robbery. Scott, along with Jerome Kieffer and Armstead Kieffer, is accused of planning and executing the two armored car robberies, which resulted in the death of Loomis guard James McBride.
