INDIANAPOLIS – Demarcus McCloud, 46, has been sentenced to eight years in federal prison for setting fire to an IndyGo bus and bus station. The blaze caused nearly $2 million in damage.
On April 24, 2024, McCloud ignited a puddle of liquid on Board #1993 as it transported passengers. He fled the scene, leaving behind destruction and danger. A passenger suffered smoke inhalation during the chaos.
Court documents reveal McCloud’s prior violent history, including threats to kill police and assaults. The defendant also admitted to starting a fire at an IndyGo depot four days earlier.
United States Attorney Tom Wheeler criticized McCloud’s actions, calling them reckless and destructive of taxpayer-funded resources. The ATF led the investigation with local law enforcement partners.
McCloud has been ordered to pay $1,790,685.23 in restitution. His sentence includes three years of supervised release following his prison term.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) praised the collaboration that led to McCloud’s conviction.
