Demetrius Thompson, Fentanyl and Cocaine Distribution, Vermont 2022

Burlington, Vermont – A Brooklyn man is behind bars after being accused of distributing fentanyl and cocaine base in the Green Mountain State.

Demetrius Thompson, 44, of Brooklyn, New York, was arrested yesterday in Rutland, Vermont. According to court records, Thompson is alleged to have distributed controlled substances on three occasions during the month of September 2022.

Thompson is scheduled to be arraigned later today before United States Magistrate Judge Kevin J. Doyle. At that time, he will face charges of distributing fentanyl and cocaine base, both federal crimes that carry a maximum sentence of 20 years of imprisonment.

Thompson is represented by Katina Ready, Esq. The United States Attorney’s Office emphasizes that an Indictment contains allegations only and that Thompson is presumed innocent until and unless he is convicted of a crime.

According to court records, during the execution of a state search warrant at a residence in Rutland City, police located Thompson inside the residence. Additionally, they found approximately $4,000 in cash, a quantity of controlled substances, and a firearm.

The United States Attorney’s Office commended the investigatory efforts of the Rutland City Police Department and Homeland Security Investigations. United States Attorney Nikolas P. Kerest praised the work of the two agencies in bringing this case to justice.

Assistant United States Attorney Jonathan A. Ophardt is handling the case. Thompson’s arraignment is set to take place later today.
