Johnson Faces 50 Months for Crack Cocaine
Burlington, VT – A local man’s addiction to the streets has landed him a lengthy prison sentence. Albert Johnson, 55, of Burlington, Vermont, was sentenced to 50 months in prison for possession with intent to distribute cocaine base in Vermont.
Johnson was arrested on March 8, 2014, after members of the Burlington Police Department executed a state search warrant at an apartment on College Street in Burlington. At the time, Johnson was being supervised by the Office of Vermont Probation and Parole for a 2012 state drug conviction in Vermont.
According to court records, Johnson was in possession of crack cocaine he intended to sell in Vermont. The investigation was led by the Burlington Police Department, and the case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Nancy J. Creswell.
The defendant pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute heroin and cocaine base on November 12, 2014. Johnson has been detained in prison since his arrest. On March 6, 2015, Johnson was sentenced by Chief United States District Court Judge Christina Reiss to 50 months in prison.
Johnson was also sentenced to 5 years of supervised release following his release from prison. The Acting United States Attorney, Eugenia A.P. Cowles, commends the Burlington Police Department for its work in this case. The defendant was represented by Attorney Michael L. Desautels of the Office of the Federal Public Defender.
