A Denver, Colorado, man has been sentenced to 87 months in federal prison for his role in a conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance in South Dakota.
Vincent Rios, 32, was sentenced on June 3, 2015, by Chief Judge Jeffrey L. Viken, U.S. District Court, following his guilty plea on December 17, 2014.
The charge against Rios related to his involvement in a conspiracy to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine in the District of South Dakota in 2014.
Rios’ sentence also includes 4 years of supervised release and a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
He was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Rapid City Police Department, the South Dakota Highway Patrol, the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation, and the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Eric Kelderman prosecuted the case, bringing an end to a significant drug trafficking operation in the region.
The sentencing serves as a reminder of the consequences of involvement in illegal drug activities and the efforts of law enforcement agencies to tackle the issue.
