Pine Ridge Woman Sentenced for Cocaine Conspiracy

A Pine Ridge woman is headed to federal prison after being convicted of conspiracy to distribute cocaine. Tricia Lee Pond, a/k/a Trish Pond, 42, received a 60-month sentence, four years of supervised release, and a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.

Pond was found guilty of conspiring to distribute a controlled substance with others, and it is reasonable to believe she distributed more than 500 grams of cocaine on and around the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation.

According to court documents, between 2009 and April 2013, Pond would travel from South Dakota to Denver, Colorado, to obtain marijuana and cocaine for further distribution. She would then deliver ounce quantities of cocaine to others.

Pond was indicted by a federal grand jury on April 16, 2013, and later pled guilty on September 6, 2013. The case was investigated by the Northern Plains Safe Trails Drug Enforcement Task Force.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Ted L. McBride and Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Laura A. Shattuck prosecuted the case. U.S. Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced the sentence.

Pond was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service. This case highlights the ongoing struggle against drug trafficking in the region.

The investigation and prosecution of Pond’s case serves as a reminder of the importance of holding individuals accountable for their actions and working to keep our communities safe.
