Walter Conwell, Sex Trafficking and Minor Transport, Colorado 2025

Denver’s Walter Conwell, 41, has been handed a seven-year sentence in federal prison for his role in sex trafficking and transporting minors across state lines. The sentence comes after the man was found guilty of recruiting and advertising two victims online, promising them housing, cars, health insurance, and clothing that he never delivered. According to the plea agreement, Conwell coerced one of the victims, even withholding her money and property. One of the victims was under 18 at the time of the crime. Conwell traveled from Texas to Colorado, where he engaged in sex acts with an underage victim before promoting her for prostitution.

United States Attorney Peter McNeilly called federal prison ‘the appropriate place for a man who took everything from these young women and sold them for sex,’ emphasizing the unwavering commitment to justice for survivors of human trafficking. FBI Denver Special Agent in Charge Mark Michalek stated that Conwell preyed on vulnerable people, showing ‘appalling lack of respect for basic human values.’ Despite his conviction, his survivors now face a challenging recovery process, but their abuser is behind bars.

The sentencing was presided over by Senior United States District Judge Christine M. Arguello on August 21, 2025. The investigation was conducted by the FBI, with prosecution handled by Assistant United States Attorneys Melissa Hindman and Alecia L. Riewerts.

Conwell’s case number is 1:21-cr-00364-CMA, serving as a stark reminder of the ongoing battle against human trafficking and the importance of community safety.
