WHEELING, WEST VIRGINIA – A 34-year-old Euclid, Ohio man was caught in a web of illicit activity in Marshall County, West Virginia. Deonte Raymond James, 34, of Euclid, Ohio, was indicted on drug and firearms charges in what could be the first step towards a lengthy prison sentence.
According to the indictment, James is accused of having methamphetamine in January 2022 in Marshall County. This charge alone carries a prison sentence of up to 20 years and a fine of up to $1,000,000.
However, James’s troubles do not end there. He is also accused of possessing a firearm, a .357 Magnum revolver, which is a serious offense considering his previous felony convictions. This charge carries a prison sentence of up to 10 years and a fine of up to $250,000.
In total, James faces a maximum of 30 years in prison and fines totaling $1,250,000. While the actual sentence will depend on various factors, including James’s prior criminal history, it is clear that this is a serious case.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Shawn M. Adkins is leading the prosecution, while the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Moundsville Police Department, and the Marshall County Drug Task Force contributed to the investigation.
It’s worth noting that an indictment is merely an accusation, and James is presumed innocent until proven guilty. However, the charges against him are serious, and it will be up to the courts to determine his fate.
James’s case serves as a reminder of the ongoing struggle against drug trafficking and firearms-related crimes in West Virginia. The involvement of the Marshall County Drug Task Force, a HIDTA-funded initiative, highlights the collaborative effort to tackle these issues.
