Jose Luis Ruiz-Gutierrez, a Mexican national with a history of felony convictions, was found in the United States on October 19, 2024, despite being deported three times before. The 36-year-old was sentenced to 36 months in prison for illegal reentry, a crime that has landed him in trouble before. Ruiz-Gutierrez has prior convictions for possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell and coercion with physical force, both out of Clark County, Nevada.
Ruiz-Gutierrez’s criminal history spans over a decade, with deportations dating back to 2011. He was previously removed from the country on February 15, 2011, May 3, 2011, and December 24, 2013. His latest arrest and sentencing are part of a larger effort by the Department of Justice to combat illegal immigration and transnational crime.
The ICE Salt Lake City, Las Vegas Sub-Office investigated the case, which was prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Nevada. Ruiz-Gutierrez pleaded guilty to one count of Deported Alien Found in the United States and will be deported to Mexico for a fourth time after serving his prison sentence.
The case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative aimed at eliminating cartels and transnational crime. The operation marshals the full resources of the Department of Justice to repel the invasion of illegal immigration and achieve a safer America.
