Jose Leonel Gomez-Palma, a Nicaraguan national, and Isidrio Lopez-Ramirez, a Mexican national, were arrested in Las Vegas for illegal reentry into the United States after being previously deported. On April 30, 2026, Gomez-Palma was arrested for Driving Under the Influence and Possess Gun Under the Influence of Alcohol/Drugs, while Lopez-Ramirez was remanded to ICE custody on April 27, 2026, after serving a sentence for DUI 3rd, a felony. Both men have prior felony convictions, with Gomez-Palma having spent 24 years and four months in prison for crimes including carjacking, kidnapping, and assault with a deadly weapon.
Gomez-Palma was previously deported to Nicaragua on September 8, 2012, and Lopez-Ramirez was deported to Mexico on September 3, 2011, and again on November 10, 2020. The two men now face charges of deported alien found in the United States, with preliminary hearings scheduled for May 26, 2026, before United States Magistrate Judge Nancy J. Koppe.
The arrests were made by officers with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and the Clark County Detention Center, in cooperation with U.S. Immigration Custom Enforcement (ICE). The case highlights the ongoing issue of illegal reentry into the United States, with many deported felons attempting to return to the country despite having been previously removed.
The charges against Gomez-Palma and Lopez-Ramirez are serious, with the men facing potential prison time if convicted. The case will continue to unfold in the coming weeks, with the preliminary hearings scheduled for later this month.
