Jorge Adalberto Dejesus Rondon, a 38-year-old Dominican national, and Warlin DeJesus Arnaud-Salcedo, a 41-year-old Dominican national, were sentenced to prison in March for illegally reentering the United States after prior deportations. The crimes occurred in Philadelphia, PA, where both men had previously been removed from the country. Dejesus Rondon had been deported three times before, while Arnaud-Salcedo had been deported once before. The reasons behind their reentry into the US were not specified, but their actions led to their arrest and sentencing.
Dejesus Rondon, who used multiple aliases, including Jorge Garcia, Henry Matos, and Edwin Carrillo, was sentenced to 40 months in prison. He had previously been convicted of drug charges in the Philadelphia County Court of Common Pleas and had served sentences for illegal reentry in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania and the Southern District of Texas. After eluding an attempted arrest in April last year, he was finally arrested in June at a Philadelphia residence.
Arnaud-Salcedo, on the other hand, was sentenced to 14 months in prison. He had been encountered by ICE personnel in May last year on the 6100 block of Hegerman Street in Philadelphia, while they were searching for other individuals. After providing identification and being permitted to leave, he was later taken into custody when ICE determined that he had reentered the country illegally.
Both men will be removed from the United States again after completing their sentences. Their cases highlight the ongoing issue of illegal reentry into the US and the efforts of law enforcement agencies to combat this crime.
