In a shocking bust, Wyatt Eugene Rogers, a 39-year-old prior felon, was caught with a loaded firearm and nearly 74 grams of methamphetamine in Sapulpa, Oklahoma, in September 2024. Rogers was pulled over by Sapulpa Police for a traffic violation, but things took a turn when he admitted to not having a valid driver’s license or car insurance. A K9 officer was called to the scene, and the dog alerted its handler to the presence of drugs in the vehicle. A search of the vehicle revealed a loaded handgun under the passenger seat and a significant amount of methamphetamine.
Rogers initially denied knowledge of the firearm and the meth, but later came clean, admitting that the meth and gun were his. This wasn’t Rogers’ first run-in with the law – he has a lengthy criminal history that includes domestic assault, prior methamphetamine distribution convictions, and unlawful firearm possession.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Sapulpa Police Department investigated the case, which was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jessica Wright. U.S. District Judge John D. Russell sentenced Rogers to 90 months in prison, followed by four years of supervised release.
Rogers will remain in custody pending transfer to the U.S. Bureau of Prisons. The case is part of the Project Safe Neighborhoods initiative, a nationwide effort to address and reduce violent crime.
