Avis Delynn Jones, a 41-year-old Marshall, Texas resident, has been sentenced to 20 years in federal prison for a methamphetamine trafficking violation. On March 17, 2023, cops executed a search warrant at Jones’ University Avenue residence, uncovering a stash of 440.7 grams of meth hidden in children’s backpacks. The bust also yielded cocaine, marijuana, a stolen firearm, and distribution paraphernalia.
Jones, who has a history of violent crime, pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. His prior convictions include injury to a child, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance.
The case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative aimed at dismantling cartels and transnational criminal organizations. The investigation was led by the FBI, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and Marshall Police Department, with prosecution handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Lucas Machicek.
U.S. District Judge Rodney Gilstrap handed down the 240-month sentence on April 15, 2026. Jones’ sentencing serves as a warning to those involved in the illicit drug trade: law enforcement is cracking down, and the consequences will be severe.
