MUSKOGEE, OKLAHOMA – Derrick Dewayne Louie-Jackson, 44, of Seminole, Oklahoma, will spend over four years behind bars after a federal jury convicted him of illegally possessing ammunition. The sentence, handed down Friday, reflects the ongoing federal crackdown on individuals prohibited from having firearms or related materials due to prior convictions.
Louie-Jackson was sentenced to 51 months in prison after being found guilty of one count of Felon in Possession of Ammunition. The case originated with a search conducted on April 28, 2022, while authorities were executing an arrest warrant. During the search, officers discovered Louie-Jackson in possession of ammunition – a clear violation of federal law given his previous felony conviction, an offense punishable by more than one year in prison.
The investigation was a joint effort between the Seminole Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). While details of the initial warrant and the circumstances surrounding the discovery of the ammunition were not immediately released, the collaborative nature of the investigation highlights the increasing coordination between local and federal agencies in addressing firearm-related offenses.
U.S. District Judge John F. Heil, III, presided over the hearing in Muskogee. Louie-Jackson will be transferred from U.S. Marshal custody to a designated Bureau of Prisons facility to begin serving his non-parolable sentence. This means he will not be eligible for early release on parole.
Assistant United States Attorneys Kevin Cheung and Jarrod Leaman successfully prosecuted the case for the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, led by U.S. Attorney Christopher J. Wilson. The conviction serves as a reminder that individuals with prior felony convictions who attempt to possess firearms or ammunition will face significant federal penalties.
