Gulfport, Miss – Destin Dominique Johnson, a 27-year-old resident of Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, was handed down a 48-month prison sentence by Chief U.S. District Judge Louis Guirola, Jr. on April 4, 2017, for being a felon in possession of a firearm, according to U. S. Attorney Harold H. Brittain.
In June 2016, Johnson was caught with a firearm, leading to his ongoing incarceration. Alongside the prison term, Johnson has been ordered to pay a substantial $3,000 fine and will serve three years of supervised release upon his release from prison.
The court also mandated that Johnson’s federal sentence run concurrently with a state sentence imposed by Hancock County and recommended participation in the Bureau of Prisons’ 500-hour drug treatment program during his incarceration.
This case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Annette Williams.
Johnson’s conviction is a stark reminder of the consequences faced by those who flout firearms laws while on felony probation. The ATF remains vigilant in its efforts to keep illegal firearms off the streets.
