Raleigh, NC – A Wilson man has been sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to drug and gun charges. Deterri Obrian Lucas, 32, of Wilson, NC was sentenced to 126 months of imprisonment followed by 5 years of supervised release by United States District Judge Terrence W. Boyle.
Lucas pleaded guilty to a three-count indictment, charging Possession with Intent to Distribute Heroin, Possession of a Firearm in Furtherance of a Drug Trafficking Crime, and Possession of a Firearm by a Felon.
The investigation began on June 26, 2016, when officers of the Wilson Police Department conducted a traffic stop on Lucas to serve outstanding warrants for his arrest. During the stop, officers arrested Lucas and in a subsequent search of the vehicle, they located a loaded 9mm handgun under Lucas’ seat. They later found a quantity of heroin hidden in Lucas’ pants.
The Wilson Police Department conducted the investigation of this case. Assistant United States Attorney Jake D. Pugh is prosecuting this case on behalf of the government.
Lucas’ sentence was handed down on what is to our knowledge an unspecified date after the guilty plea, although the guilty plea was on September 6, 2017. Lucas is currently serving his sentence after being found guilty of the aforementioned charges. The case was investigated by the Wilson Police Department.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of North Carolina announced the sentencing. Robert J. Higdon, Jr., the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of North Carolina, praised the law enforcement agencies involved in the case for their hard work and dedication to keeping the community safe.
Lucas was arrested on June 26, 2016, and has been in custody since then. He is currently serving his sentence at an unspecified location. The case is a reminder of the dangers of drug trafficking and the importance of law enforcement’s efforts to combat it.
