A Detroit man has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for his role in a heroin and gun trafficking operation in West Virginia, Grimy Times reports. Darryl Eric Hill, 37, was found guilty of possession with intent to distribute heroin and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.
Hill was arrested in October 2020 after law enforcement officers executed a search warrant at the Double Tree Hotel in Huntington, West Virginia. Officers seized heroin, methamphetamine, crack cocaine, over $19,000 and a loaded 9mm pistol from Hill’s hotel room.
According to court documents, Hill admitted to staying at the hotel for several weeks and selling drugs in the Huntington area. He also admitted to keeping the firearm with him to protect himself due to his status as a drug dealer.
Acting United States Attorney Lisa G. Johnston praised the investigative work of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Huntington Police Department in bringing Hill to justice.
Hill’s sentence was imposed by United States District Judge Robert C. Chambers. Assistant United States Attorney Joseph F. Adams handled the prosecution of the case.
Hill’s conviction marks another success for the Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) program, a key initiative aimed at reducing violent crime in communities nationwide. PSN brings together a broad spectrum of stakeholders to identify and address the most pressing violent crime problems in a given area.
The PSN program focuses enforcement efforts on the most violent offenders and partners with locally based prevention and reentry programs to achieve lasting reductions in crime.
