Detroit Man Sentenced to 20 Years for Methamphetamine and Fentanyl Distribution

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – A Detroit man will spend the next two decades behind bars after pleading guilty to distributing methamphetamine and fentanyl in West Virginia.

Michael Dayshawn Harris, also known as "Polo," 30, of Detroit, Michigan, copped to the crime and will be sentenced on September 30, 2024. Harris faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison, at least three years of supervised release, and a $1 million fine.

The charges against Harris stem from an October 6, 2022, transaction in which he sold 29 grams of methamphetamine and a quantity of fentanyl to a confidential informant in Huntington. Harris admitted to arranging the sale earlier that day when the informant called him.

This is not the first time Harris has faced charges related to the distribution of illicit substances. Co-defendant Desmond Devon Magee, also known as "Rich," 27, of Detroit, was sentenced on May 22, 2023, to four years in prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release, after pleading guilty to distribution of a quantity of a mixture and substance containing a detectable amount of methamphetamine.

United States Attorney Will Thompson commended the investigative work of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Cabell County Sheriff’s Department. “The hard work and dedication of law enforcement agencies in our district have led to another successful conviction in our fight against the opioid epidemic,” said Thompson.

United States District Judge Robert C. Chambers presided over the hearing. Assistant United States Attorney Joseph F. Adams and Courtney L. Finney are prosecuting the case.
