Huntington, W.Va. – In a grim turn of events, Sylvester Roosevelt McNeil, also known as ‘Juan,’ 50, from Detroit, Michigan, has pleaded guilty to distributing fentanyl, a deadly drug that has plagued the region.
According to court documents and statements made in court, on August 27, 2022, McNeil sold approximately 1.3 grams of fentanyl to a confidential informant at a location on Nickel Plate Road in Huntington, West Virginia. The sale marked another blow in the ongoing battle against drug trafficking.
McNeil is scheduled to be sentenced on May 8, 2023, and faces a severe penalty of up to 20 years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a $1 million fine for his transgression. The severity of the punishment reflects the dangerous nature of fentanyl and its impact on public safety.
United States Attorney Will Thompson announced the plea deal, commending the investigative work of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Cabell County Sheriff’s Department for their relentless pursuit of justice. United States District Judge Robert C. Chambers presided over the hearing, with Assistant United States Attorney Joseph F. Adams prosecuting the case.
This investigation is part of the Department of Justice’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF), which has been a cornerstone in the fight against major drug trafficking organizations since its establishment in 1982. The OCDETF combines resources and expertise from federal agencies, state, and local law enforcement to identify, disrupt, and dismantle significant threats to public safety, economic, or national security.
