GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN – In a stunning turn of events in the Detroit drug underworld, Joseph Michael McNoriell, alias Mike X, has been found guilty by a jury on charges of conspiracy to distribute cocaine and heroin, as well as possession with intent to distribute cocaine. The conviction follows three tense days of trial that concluded last Thursday.
McNoriell, 43, is scheduled to stand before the court for sentencing on August 7, 2024. The U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Michigan, Mark Totten, emphasized the gravity of the crime, stating, ‘These illegal substances destroy lives and devastate communities. We will never prosecute our way out of this problem, but we will continue our work to dismantle the regional-level supply lines that distribute drugs across Michigan.’
The trial’s evidence laid bare a sophisticated operation in which McNoriell collaborated with others to transport two kilograms of cocaine from southeast Michigan to Lansing. On June 2, 2022, the defendant used a female drug courier and followed her to make the delivery. However, unbeknownst to him, the DEA and MSP were poised for action, seizing the drugs as they were transferred.
U.S. Attorney Mark Totten echoed the DEA’s commitment, ‘This investigation emphasizes the mission of the DEA: combating criminal drug networks like the one Mr. McNoriell was involved in. Along with our local, state, and federal partners, we will relentlessly pursue individuals and organizations who prioritize greed and profit over human lives.’
The prosecution of this case was led by Assistant United States Attorneys Vito S. Solitro and LaToyia T. Carpenter. The DEA, Michigan State Police, Lansing Police Department, and Holland Department of Public Safety collaborated on the investigation that culminated in McNoriell’s conviction.
